Quick answer: since 1 January 2026, Amazon no longer preps or labels inventory for FBA sellers in the US. You, your team or a prep centre must now label every unit, poly bag or bubble wrap items that need it, and ship cartons that meet Amazon’s rules. Mistakes mean delays, rejections or fees.

All of that is now your job before the shipment leaves.
The 2026 prep checklist
- One scannable barcode per unit. Either the manufacturer barcode (if eligible) or an FNSKU label that fully covers it. See how to print FNSKU labels.
- Poly bags where needed. Bags must be transparent, at least 1.5 mil thick, fully sealed, and carry a suffocation warning if the opening is 5 inches or more.
- Bubble wrap fragile items so they survive conveyors and drops.
- Drop test perforated packaging. Items in boxes with perforations or openings must survive a 3-foot drop test, or go in a poly bag with a warning.
- Bundles labelled “Sold as set” and individual barcodes covered so only the bundle barcode scans.
- Carton labels. Every box needs its own FBA box ID label from Seller Central.
Suffocation warning wording
Commonly used text: “WARNING: To avoid danger of suffocation, keep this plastic bag away from babies and children. Do not use this bag in cribs, beds, carriages or playpens. This bag is not a toy.” The easiest route is buying bags with the warning pre-printed.
